After reading the awesome post by J. Barlow and D. Ellis's email I realized something. Hip-Hop Reviewz and Sumish were borne out of the necessity to talk about the "real Hip-Hop" that just didn't exist on Sohh or AllHipHop. Now that everyone is a blogger these days, it seems Hip-Hop is pretty covered. However whenever there is some sort of stream, whether its mainstream or the blogstream, people are ignored. It seems the only artists people talk about are the major artists and the "freshmen" who are all on major labels (Drake, Asher Roth, Kid Cudi, Charles Hamilton). Not to say that's a bad thing, but I think want SumIsh to focus on artists people don't talk about..
I'm of the belief cats like Oddisee/Raydar Ellis are dropping beats heavier than anything on the major Hip-Hop blog sites. All of the major blogs combine to make The New music Cartel which is just proof that everyone talks about the same thing! Not that it's bad, I think those sites are awesome, especially Nah Right, at keeping me generally informed. I want to maybe shift the focus of this site on shining light to those that didn't get props before. Ellis made it his mission for people to talk about Pack FM and J-Zone. I think I want to do that.
What does that mean? I want to move the site to Blogspot. I know, we'll lose this sick layout but frankly, we need to be able to have RSS feeds and the other things that make blog sites relevant. So If you can design a sick site on blogspot, hit me up @
with WEB DESIGN in the subject header. Let me know the price, make it recession-reasonable, and let's do business.
A new layout will still primarily focus on D. Ellis, and also make it easier for other writers to contribute. So get at me.
RIP AND REP D. Ellis
P.S. Oh yeah, the first 5 tracks on the Ricky Ross album are absurd. He needs to executive produce every record on Def Jam.
